Test Method: D2983 Controller Upgrade
Controller Upgrade for Lawler Programable Liquid Brookfield Baths
• Reduces Operator Error
• Simplicity of Use
• Windows Based Software Control System
• Infinity Number of Test Temperature Profiles
• Automated Test Temperature Correction from Data Base
• Simple Retrofit Installation

Lawler Models LB-76 and LB-76-2 Programmable Liquid Baths for testing of Brookfield viscosity by ASTM D2983 built before 2001 use a programmable digital controller manufactured either by Watlow or LFE. These controllers have been discontinued by the manufacturers. The controllers are difficult to use, prone to operator input errors, and hold a limited number of programmable temperature profiles.

Since that time, all Lawler liquid Brookfield models employ proprietary Windows based software to control and program the bath temperature. The advantages of this new control system is simplicity of use, automatic calculation of an infinite number of test temperature profiles, and a data base that offers automated test temperature correction to the needed calibration.

Lawler is offering to the users of the older Model LB-76 and LB-76-2 an upgrade to the new PC based control system. The upgrade consists of a replacement controller, cabling, and a CD disk with the proprietary Windows based control software.

Field installation requires an instrument technician to replace the old controller with a new controller kit and do some minor re-wiring. A Windows 95/98/XP based PC (not supplied) is required. An old unused PC, in most cases, will satisfy the needs of the control software.
